Tai chi sword practice can be very helpful in refining skill and understanding of biomechanics and empty handed combat principles.
This is NOT a sword lesson as much as it is a tuishou lesson. Nick, the student in this video, is a much better fencer than the teacher is. The lesson is not about superior fencing technique. It is about principles that can be applied to martial arts in general.
In this video, see if you can relate:
- 5 elements in the feet:
- Zhong ding – central equilibrium (the fulcrum)
- torque
- pressure
- Centripetal tensile geodesic (Peng and Lu)
- Defence and attack are the same (ji, an)
- Follow the fulcrum (zai, lieh, zhou, kao)
