Internal martial arts, like tai chi, explore the tiny changes that have the greatest effect. This is done while exposing the disadvantages of depending on great effort. This is not to say that size, power and great speed do not have their place. I am saying that those big movements are made of much smaller elements.
If you watch a boxing match, you will not see the subtlety that wins the fight. You will only see the coup de grace. As you progress in your training, you will realize that what the crowd sees is only the tip of the iceberg. The real victory is made in the many subtle changes that go unobserved not only by the cheering crowd, but also by the opponents, and often by the victors themselves.
