Accommodation:

There are several local hotels and resorts, in addition to Bed and Breakfast, campgrounds, and couch surfing options. I dream of someday having a full-time residential training centre.

Travel:

Driving: Orillia is a 90 minute drive north of Toronto, depending on traffic. Be prepared for very slow northbound traffic at the beginning of a long weekend and even slower southbound traffic at the end of a long weekend.

Long weekend traffic can be quite slow, as cottagers go to or from Toronto.

There are now two more lanes.

Flying:

There are airport shuttles and/or limousine services serving the three closest airports.

  • Pearson International Airport
    (Toronto)
  • Lake Simcoe Regional Airport
(with customs, immigration, and border services)
  • Orillia Rama Regional Airport
(turboprops, float planes, and small private jets)

Orillia is on the traditional territory of the Anishnaabeg, specifically the Chippewas of Rama First Nation, a member of the Chippewa Tri-Council and Three Fires Confederacy, and is home to diverse First Nations, Metis and Inuit Peoples.

Indigenous Peoples have been stewards of this area for millennia. One of North America’s oldest human developments is located here. The Mnjikaning Fish Weirs date back to the Archaic Period, five thousand years ago.

This area has been a centre of culture, diplomacy, trade, and commerce, since long before the arrival of Europeans, and as such, was an important resource for early explorers.

This land is covered by the Williams Treaties and Upper Canada Treaties and was once part of the Coldwater-Narrows Reserve.
